The strategy is the same one that Lars Tvede has personally carried out with his own money for the last 30-35 years, which has been very profitable. In other words, a flexible strategy with no geographical restrictions. Allocation to the different asset classes is based on top-down views on e.g. economic and political trends and themes. The primary exercise at any given time is to define which markets and strategies are worth investing in. Often some themes are quite unattractive for many years in a row, while others can be highly profitable. Then it can change - sometimes quickly. The big return difference lies in anticipating this. Secondary is choice of instruments, tactical timing, etc., but even if you are good at it, this becomes difficult if you choose the wrong theme - but easy if you choose the right one.\u00a0<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Lars Tvede, the fund's primary idea-generator and investment decision-maker, has spent an average of three hours a day for many years as an investor reading analyses from a number of the world's leading investment banks as well as private subscription-based research institutions. Yes, when deemed appropriate, the fund can leverage capital by up to 6.5x (net). However, this flexible framework will not be fully utilised all the time, but only in very special situations. There may also be periods where not all of the fund's assets are invested if there are not considered to be good opportunities.<\/p>

The original fund \"Expert Investor SICAV - SIF Atlas Global Macro\" was part of an umbrella structure under Credit Suisse. Upon transfer to UBS, the fund was merged into the stand-alone structure \"Atlas Global Macro RAIF\" and more specifically the sub-fund \"Atlas Global Macro Fund 1\". As an existing investor (investment made before 28 April 2022), you are now an investor in this sub-fund. This also applies if you have invested through the feeder fund managed by Fundmarket.<\/p>

Under the structure \"Atlas Global Macro RAIF\" there is also the sub-fund \"Atlas Global Macro Fund 2\". This has identical exposure as Fund 1 - but without the Russian assets. Unlike Fund 1, this fund is open for investment, so it is again possible to invest in Atlas Global Macro - but without ownership of the Russian assets, which are reserved for investors in Fund 1.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Firstly, a transfer provided the opportunity to reopen the fund to new investors, which over time will reduce management costs for existing investors as these costs will be spread over a larger asset base. In addition, through UBS, the portfolio managers have gained access to commodity exposure through futures, which is significantly more cost-effective to trade compared to ETFs and ETCs, which were the only commodity instruments the fund had access to at Credit Suisse.<\/p>

It should also be mentioned that the alternative to the transfer and thus a reopening of the fund in the long term would have been to liquidate the fund, as it is not sustainable in the long run to run a fund that is closed to new investors. A fund liquidation is typically costly, so it was in the interest of the existing investors to transfer the fund to UBS, where it could be reopened.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

The Russian assets are held in a custody account at UBS and belong to Fund 1. Existing investors in Atlas have the same co-ownership of the Russian assets now as before the transfer. New investors in Atlas will not have a share in the Russian assets, as they invest in fund 2. This protects existing investors against dilution.<\/p>

The fund owns two ETFs with Russian exposure, \"VanEck Russia ETF\" and \"iShares MSCI Eastern Europe Capped UCITS ETF\". The vast majority of the exposure is gained through the VanEck ETF. Both ETFs are currently in liquidation, meaning that their portfolio managers are attempting to liquidate the ETFs' positions, after which the proceeds will be distributed to investors, including Atlas. This has only been possible to a very limited extent so far due to sanctions.<\/p>

If there is a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine and sanctions are removed as part of that agreement, it seems likely (but by no means guaranteed) that VanEck portfolio managers will be able to sell the Russian assets at then-current market prices. However, VanEck has stated that plans to liquidate the ETF may be modified or cancelled under certain circumstances. It is therefore possible that VanEck will not liquidate the fund, but instead reopen the ETF, which will give us as managers more flexibility.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

The fund's holding of Russian assets is currently booked at 0 by the fund administrator. Our internal estimate of the value of the Russian assets based on trading prices on the Moscow Stock Exchange and the EUR\/RUB exchange rate as of 6 March 2025 is \u20ac27.5m, corresponding to just over 19 NAV points.\u00a0<\/p>

The calculation for the Russian ETFs is based on the assumption that relations between the West and Russia will normalise and that we can therefore use share prices from the Moscow Stock Exchange to value Russian assets. As an investor, you can follow your investment via Fundmarket, Nordnet or your bank, depending on how you have invested. In addition, the fund's NAV is published on Bloomberg, Morningstar, Reuters and Telekurs on the second business day of each month.
